My 1,5 TB HDD suddenly stopped working. Since I have a 1-year warranty, I took back to the store, where I had bought it.
At the store they said that the winchester is probably ok, the problem is with the rack, however they cannot get the winchester out to see whether it still functions, because in that case I will loose the warranty.
I have pretty important stuff on my HDD, so I would like to have them.
It seems odd to me to loose all the data, because it cannot openned. Anyway if it will be replaced what happens to the damaged one?
Please let me find a way, at least I can see if I still have got my data.
Thank you for your help in advance.
Hi dude, as far as I know WD WILL LET YOU OPEN THE UNIT as long as you call them and let them know before hand what you’re going to do.
A friend of mine only had to give them the name of the company for data recovery, phone number, address and the name of the person in charge and WD was ok with it, they even gave him a case number for confirmation and replaced his unit after the data was recovered.
If I were you I’d call them, you won’t know for sure until you try!
