Creating a Playlist Without Synching

I made the mistake of purchasing a 8gb fuze and added a 16gb Micro SD card.  This player is horrible.  “Refreshing your media” takes a little more then an hour, and everytime i charge it it refreshes.   to normal people playlist are impossible, unless you want to run homemade scripts,   This player ■■■■■!  I want to find a player that has the following features, anyone have any ideas.

-Easy playlist creation, from both the PC and on the unit

-Gapless playback

-Pitching

-does not refresh everytime i charge it

-some kind of additional memory

-not made by sandisk or apple

-money no object

Sounds exactly like you want Rockbox.  If you happen to have a V1 Fuze you can install Roxbox and get all those features and a thousand more.  If you have a more recent V2 Fuze then you’re out of luck.  I made the switch a couple months ago and can’t imagine going back.

Sorry for the delay, I just got back to this topic.  I saw the notifications in my email box but never came back to the site to check.  It’s not something that’s terribly imporant to me.  I can use the player just fine without it.

I’m just baffled as to why this is such a difficult and cumbersome task.  Something that should take me 1 minute to do via drag and drop now involves creating list files and typing in song names?  It would take me 3 hours to do my Johnny Cash stuff alone.  He’s a geat example of the problem.  I’d like to sit and listen to all of my Cash songs without having to touch the player, the trouble is he’s done so much work with others that the songs are tagged as “Johnny Cash with June Carter Cash”, “Johnny Cash with U2”, etc. etc.  I want to put all those under one item.  Or create a playlist called “Workout Songs” and include a bunch of different styles and genres.  It shouldnt take me a half our or involve me downloading third party programs.

Doesn’t SanDisk know of this issue?  How hard can it be to issue a correction?  I hate to be a pain but there’s really no excuse or reason for this to be so hard.

Nothing you really want ever comes easily. Didn’t your mother ever teach you that? :stuck_out_tongue:

There are numerous ways to create playlists, painlessly & easily but they all require some effort from you. Rather than whining, “It shouldn’t…” or “It should…” or “Why doesn’t it…” or “My 10 year old POS mp3 player did this…”, why don’t you look at the options (yes, it takes searching and reading), decide which method is best for you and then just do it. It would be less stress.

Focus on what you can do that’s positive, instead of dwelling on what you can’t that’s negative.

The player just reads the tags that are in the files.

Every other mp3 player also reads the tags that are in the files.

If the tag says “Johnny Cash with U2” or “Johnny and June Carter Cash” or “Johnny Man in Black Cash” or “Johnny Get Rhythm Cash” then that’s what the unit is going to display and classify.  It’s not a Sansa problem. It’s a problem created by the humans who put in the tags.

If your ripping software is set up that way, it may even have made different folders for “Johnny Cash” and “Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Three.” Because it’s a stupid computer and it’s just reading the artist tags. It doesn’t know anything about music.

However, it is an easy problem to fix.

Get mp3tag. Yes, it’s third party. It’s also free, small and stable.

When you install it it has an option to add itself to context menus. Allow that. After it installs, open it and go to Tools/Options/Tags/Mpeg and under Write choose ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1. Those are the tags the Fuze likes best. Save that.  No more geekness necessary.

OK, now throw every Johnny Cash album into one big folder on your computer. (Leave them in their individual album folders.) Right-click on the giant Cash folder. mp3tag is among your options to open it. Use it.

Wow, look at that–all your Johnny Cash songs!  Highlight them all. In the Artist field on the left half of the window, where it says <keep> because there are so many different Artist designations, either type in Johnny Cash or pick Johnny Cash from the drop down menu. Under File on the upper right, Save tags.

It might take, oh, 30 seconds to a minute.

Now all your Johnny Cash songs say Johnny Cash.  Put them back on the Fuze. (You could also just use mp3tag on the ones on the Fuze, but the computer will work faster.) No playlist necessary. But it will be up to you to remember that “The Wanderer” was the song he did with U2.

For Workout Songs, you could throw them all in a folder and use mp3tag to make the Genre “Workout Songs,” and then play them by genre.  Etc. Or you can use a playlisting program.

You can also use Video4fuze.
Not only does it convert videos and pictures for your fuze, it also creates playlists. It’s lightweight, fast and easy of use.

I hope I’ve been of some help
