i have turn it off and back on, unplugged the usb and plugged it back in also restarted my computer but nothing seems to help any advice or ideas

How’s the light on the drive? Is that a portable unit or desktop drive? If is a desktop, please make sure that the power supply is connected directly to the wall outlet.
the light is solid and its a wd my book external 4tb hard drive and i did try plugging it directly into the wall but that dint work either and i hear it running it just not doing anything
Will be nice understand what is the problem if the hhd power supply is connected to a multiplugs with few metres cable long …
