Clip+ Battery

I purchased my Clip+ back in December to replace my old Clip.  Now we’re only in April and the battery will only hold a charge for a couple of hours if i’m lucky.

Really disapointed in the Clip+.  I read many reviews before purchasing the Clip+ and many buyers talked about how their batteries started going out after a couple of months.  Decided to take a chance anyway since I didn’t want to purchase another iPod.  My original Clip did not have this issue so soon.

Any suggestions as to what actions I should take?

There’s only one logical (and obvious) action to take . . .

Call SanDisk Tech Supportfor a possible RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization).

Mine (and many others) are perfectly fine.

Nice timing ron56ace — looks like we’re both signing up to report the same problem on the same day. I bought my Clip+ a few months ago and it’s having the same problem you described — the battery dies after a couple hours at most. Odd thing is the battery display still shows about half full, but the thing insists the battery’s low and shuts off immediately. I love my Clip+ but this appears to be a design problem and if I have to RMA it I’ll just buy a different brand.

Kinda depends how painful the RMA process is I guess.

If SanDisk uses the “we send you the replacement, you send back the broken unit once you receive the replacement” model I’ll probably go ahead and do it.

That said, I’ve just finished looking at other mp3 players online and I think I’ve decided to go ahead and buy a Fuze+.

I’m definitely disappointed about the presumed battery issue with my Clip+ but SanDisk packs a lot of features into their mp3 players — expandable memory (via SDHC), FLAC playback, Replay Gain support… That’s pretty hard to beat.

As far as the battery problem goes, it isn’t even the short battery life I’m concerned about, it’s the fact that the battery life indicator doesn’t seem at all accurate, meaning I have no way of knowing how much juice is left.

Miikerman: Can you tell me, on your Clip+ does the battery life indicator go completely “empty” before the battery dies?

Mine still shows something like half the battery remains but mayb “half full” really means “empty” on all their players?

Normally, Sandisk will have you go through some troubleshooting steps before the rep will decide whether or not to RMA the player.  In your case, it sounds like your unit is defective and I doubt that they’ll make you go through much of that.  It’s faster to call them than to email them.

After you get a RMA, Sandisk will send you a return label, you send your unit to them, they check it, and then send you a replacement. The whole process usually takes a few weeks from the time that you call them.

I suggest that you read through some of the threads in the fuze+ broad.  FLAC playback is still a little buggy.

Both the clip+ and the original fuze (with the current firmware) does that very well.  Although it uses up alot of battery life.

If all you’re getting is a couple of hours of battery life, even with FLAC playback, your battery is defective.  You have a one year warranty in the U.S. (two in Europe), why not use it?
