Cannot retrieve backup from My Passport

I was using My Passport hard drive as a back-up for my main hard drive using the Smartwave software–I backed up my photos on it, documents, email settings, everything.  My main hard drive began to fail, so I had to buy a new hard drive & put it into my PC, which is running Windows XP service pack 3.

I plugged My Passport hard drive into my PC after putting in the new hard drive & reinstalling Windows XP.  Windows XP lists it on My Computer as My Passport (K) & I can go into it & see all the files.

I installed the Smartwave software on my new PC & when I use it, there is no backup tab, no retrieval tab–nothing.  The settings tab is grayed out.  If I go into the Passport drive itself, I can see a bunch of folders including one called WD SmartWave.swstor.  In that folder, I find a folder called DOWNSTAIRS_PC, which was what my old hard drive was called.  It contains more folders, one of which is the my document file for me, which contains all of my backed up data, but when I try to open that folder, it says it is not accessible & access is denied.

What am I doing wrong?  How can I gain access to my data?  All of my photos are on this drive!  Please help me figure this out!

you didn’t answer the questions.  i’m having the same problem, after initially being able to backup, now  there is no backup tab, no retrieval tab.  i did all the restarts on the computer and the WD drive, doesn’t matter, when i open the WD Smartware program, backup and retrieval are still greyed out.  why!!!
