I have backed up a Windows 7 (64) to My Passport. The Win7 PC is now dead and I want to retreive my backup to my Windows 8.1 (64) laptop.
I have installed Smartware. I can explore the Passport and see some (but not all) of my files.
I have tried to retrieve to the laptop, but as soon as I push the Retrieve button, it says the retrieval was successful, and, of course, nothing was retrieved. I chose to retrieve all files.
Are you choosing to retrieve to the original location or to a custom folder? You can also take the smartware folder inside of the passport and transfer to the computer manually.
I’m having to transfer to a new pc, so I am trying to retrieve to a new folder since the original position doesn’t exist anymore. Everything seems to be arranged propertly. I just cant’t get anything to transfer.
Frankly, I’m also not sure about how to do it manually, either.
Hi there, have a look at this. If that doesn’t work you should probably contact support as they can guide you step by step on how to do it with the smartware and in case that it doesn’t work also to do it manually.
Thanks for the manual. I had pretty much done everything that is listed in the manual. I just get to the click to retrieve point, I click and it tells me that the retrieval is complete. Obviously it has been done.
Also not sure about doing it manually. I can see files on my passport, but I can’t figure out how to pick the most recent one. Nothing seems to be dated. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?
