can I wipe a rescue stick to reuse it?

I have a redundant rescue flash drive (the pc totally died.) When it was plugged in it automatically started it’s rescue mission. I hate to chuck potentially usable items. Is there any way I can wipe the contents to use the stick for other data?

Two options I would try. 1. Delete all the files and folders on the drive, including the hidden ones. If the drive is usable you’re done. 2. If the drive is not usable reformat it as an exFAT drive.

You mentioned it would start automatically, is it in your pc’s boot list? Removing it from there would be good idea and may help with option 1.

ed_p thanks for your suggestions. I shall investigate how to remove items from the boot list.
