I have all my backups scheduled to run overnight to WD external HDs. But my PC goes to sleep so how do I make sure the PC is awakened and sufficient time is allowed for the HDs to wake up too, before the back up program runs? Does WD have a way to trigger a wake up before the backup begins?

Your PC should be in active mode note in Sleep mode while backup schedule.
