A Clip+ with 150 hours of battery life!

While 150 hours is a bit extreme, making the case on the Clip+ around 30-50% thicker could probably allow a large enough battery to give 30 hours of battery life.

I think the battery life might be closer to 200 hours for mp3 files.

I don’t want it to be 30-50% thicker…because then it would be heavier. I always clip mine to my shirt pocket, and I like that it is light enough not to affect my shirt and how it sits on my body…as opposed to, say, using my Cowon D2 ( which has the battery life you dream of )  in the same way , which does make my shirt droop noticeably, and I have to be careful not to lean forward too far for fear of it falling out.

There could be two versions of the Clip+, one with the short battery life, and one with the extended battery life. Having a larger battery would also mean that it would be more expensive. Since the player has a memory card slot but no battery slot, it would be much more useful to have the player available with a variety of battery sizes rather than a variety of memory sizes.

I don’t think anyone doubts that its physically possible to put a bigger battery (or better yet put a more modern, power efficient CPU) in a Clip+.  Its just that theres no market for dirt cheap mp3 players with multiple battery sizes.  Yeah you’d buy one and some other people on the internet, but they’d never sell however many millions needed to break even.  Plus you already like Sandisk players so you’ll buy one no matter what size battery they offer.  So while it’d be super easy to do, it won’t happen since it doesn’t make financial sense verses just selling you what everyone else wants.

Instead eventually they’ll stop making the CPU in the Clip+ and Sandisk will be forced to redesign it around a newer processor just as they did with the ClipV2 and e200v2 and m200v2 and m200v3 and m200v4 and so on.  When that happens you’ll get a couple more hours worth of battery life from about the same sized battery.

Think it would be cool to see a clip on extended battery back for the Clip, that could clip onto and be removed from the back of the Clip. This would require that the Clip’s clip be removable as with the original Clip (and the clip then could be clipped onto the battery pack), I don’t know, though, if this would fit SanDisk’s business model, as it would add an accessory to the Clip line (but it also could add profit for SanDisk, as people buy an extra battery pack to keep around for emergency and other extended play use).
