6TB G-Drive Pro External Hard Drive with Type-C Cable

I’m facing issues with my 6TB G-Drive Pro External Hard Drive when trying to write data. It’s connected via a Type-C cable, but the write speed is inconsistent, and sometimes it doesn’t save files at all. Has anyone experienced this or have troubleshooting tips? Could it be a formatting or compatibility issue? Any advice would be great! Here’s more info: G-Drive Pro Support.

Hii @gailhiggins It sounds like your G-Drive Pro may be experiencing compatibility or performance issues, especially with inconsistent write speeds and file saving problems. Here are some troubleshooting steps to consider:

  1. Check Compatibility and Formatting: If you’re using the drive across different operating systems (e.g., Windows and macOS), ensure the drive is formatted in a compatible file system. For cross-compatibility, exFAT is a good option, as it works on both Windows and macOS. If it’s formatted as APFS or HFS+ (common on macOS), it may cause issues when connected to Windows.
  2. Update Device Drivers: Ensure the drivers for the G-Drive are up-to-date. In many cases, outdated drivers can lead to performance inconsistencies. You can check for driver updates from G-Technology (now Western Digital) or through your system’s Device Manager.
  3. Try a Different USB Port or Cable: A faulty cable or port can cause data interruptions. Testing with a different Type-C cable or port might improve stability.
  4. Run Disk Utility or Disk Management: For macOS, use Disk Utility to check and repair the drive. On Windows, you can use Disk Management or run chkdsk to identify any issues with the drive.

For additional support, check the official G-Technology Support page for firmware updates or contact their support directly.
