I have a Passport Essential 320GB that got corrupted. I wasn’t able to access the files so I tried re-formatting the disk. Now It’s not recognized on either of my laptops, one running Windows XP and the other running Windows Vista. I may have over-written the USB drivers on the drive. I would appreciate any help I can get with this issue.
I got the same problem with my 320 Passport Essential. It shows the Smartware files - about 600 Mb, but not the 320 Gb. I also tried to reformat it using Dos, unsucessfully.
Joe, I read your other posts about deleting the driver. My question is: What is the name of the driver and where can I found the driver. I am a newbie, using Windows XP Home SP-3.
Go into the device manager and look for disk drives. It it will be in there. Right click the drive and uninstall. Then remove drive reboot system and reconnect drive. It will load a new driver.
Thank you for your suggestions. I did as you wrote, with no success. The unit doesn’t show in the device manager or the disk manager. I’ve been working with someone from WD and it looks like it may have been a bad drive to start with.
