16 GB cruzer reports its whrite protected

Hi

I didn’t have the option delete files or “cut”

When I try to copy to the sundisk files

When I try to edit the files

When I try to format my memory stick drive It reports a memory whrite protected error .

How can I  remove the write protected error? I’m using in windows 7 64Bit

I have tested it on vista 32bit and XP 32 bit as well and the same.

Bump!

I have same problem. i’ve tried the unlocker. didn’t work.

here’s what file properties say about the file: ](http://i42.tinypic.com/2m3jzb4.jpg[/IMG])

at this point I would be happy with just formating the thing,  but even that is forbidden, because USB is write protected.

What happens when you click on the box in front of the words Read-only then click on the Apply button?

I’ve tried changing permission back and forth Full control <-> Read many times.

The Property always remembers well the state of permission.

So far, I still could not format or write/delete any file(s) on my 8 GB Cruze Blade.

Backup the files on it to your harddrive, then return it to the place where you bought it or contact Sandisk for a replacement.

This is a known hardware error and can’t be fixed. Sandisk is aware of the issue, although there is no official recall for the product. This is an offical answer if you contact customer service:

"I understand that you are getting write protection error while accessing your Cruzer flash drive. The flash drive has detected a potential fault and has become write protected to prevent data loss. There is no method to fix this. You will need to backup your data and replace the flash drive.

Our team of developers is in combination with the OS developers looking into a solution to resolve this issue.

Please note that only a minor percentage of users are experiencing the write protection issue and these are the customers posting on the internet to find a solution."

SOLUTION 1: Return to where you bought and get a refund (as others usb drives might have the same issue)

SOLUTION 2: Contact Sandisk costumer service and get a refund, for the same reasons
