10 sec delay before each file transfer, model SDSSDE61-2T00

I have a new Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD 2TB. I am using the supplied cable, with USB type C connection to HP laptop running Windows 11, 64 bit.

Every time I copy or move a file from the laptop to the SSD, there is a delay of 10 or 12 seconds before the transfer begins. This delay is also present before any other function can be done, like rename a file on the SSD, or expand the directory tree on the SSD. After the delay, then transfer speed seems ok.

I’m just wondering if this is something anyone else has seen before, and is there a setting I can change or something I need to do to solve the problem. (There is no such delay when transferring files to Micro SD card or USB thumb drive)

I tried using the USB-C to USB-A adapter, and this resulted in extremely slow performance, like 5 minutes to copy a 100MB file.

Thanks in advance for any help!
