I recently found out that the latest update for Windows 11 has rendered my SN770 2TB WB_BLACK card totally useless.
I have tried the following… unsuccessfully update the firmware, made registry changes, and tweaked some windows 11 settings. I even rolled back my Windows update, but to no avail. I believe that my memory card is now corrupted thanks to Windows and wonder what the course of action is now?
Thoughts?

Hi @P_Smith
Since rolling back the update and other fixes didn’t work, I recommend the following steps:
- Test on Another System: Check if the SN770 works on a different PC to rule out compatibility issues.
- Disk Management Check: Open Disk Management on Windows to see if the drive is detected but unallocated. If so, you may need to format it (note: this will erase data).
- Data Recovery (if needed): If the card contains important data, use trusted free data recovery software to attempt recovery before formatting.
- Contact Support: If all else fails, reach out to WD support for warranty service or further assistance.
I’ve done everything. Can’t rebuild it. It is seen for a second on my system, and then is gone. Can’t format it. Can’t do anything to it.
I have a message into tech support about a replacement.
I have checked all the articles and done every suggested fix.
None have worked.
I have a WD SN770 that is DOA on the table after yanking it
Try connecting it to older Gen3 slot, if you have access to such mobo. I have a z490 mainboard with one Gen4 and one Gen3 slot. If I connect it to Gen4 it reacts exactly the same as you described, works without problems in Gen3 slot though. I know it is not a perfect solution, but maybe it will help to find a root cause of the issue.
I use my old Lenovo P52 to sometimes revive SSD logic as the machine has dual M.2 slots making it possible to attach it to PCIe for fast recovery vs USB solutions
