I just bought it and did not see Vista in the list of compatible op systems. So I have not gone further, til i find out.
And what is the difference between a portable and external drive?

An Portable drive is an External drive. There also External drives that are NOT Portable.
Please describe the the WD drive you bought. WD My Passport? WD My Book? Cloud?
Non of them seem to be compatible with Vista. Windows 7, 8 7 10 ONLY.
I bought WD My Passport. I wonder if i could try a back up or saving something to see if it works. the link i added here includes Windows Vista in compatible op systems. i think i will follow it and see what happens. Please let me know if you have further input on this. (If it’s not going to work for me i need to take it back to the store)Thanks
