What is the portable HDD TB limit for smart tv's

I have read on some internet posts that it is 2TB

I just bought a 3TB My Book & loaded movies & photos onto it, the Samsung tv recognises the drive but not any content.

I should be able to return the device & swap for a smaller sized MMy Book but want to get it right.

Has anyone broached this issue & had a resolution?

I have tried the WD helpdesk & have had replies as follows:

I do apologize but the My Book was designed to work on Windows and Mac operating systems therefore we will not be able to provide support or recommendations since we haven’t tested the product on TV.

You may need to contact Samsung and check if they have special requirements for the drives the TV can support

&

The media player you have, WD00AVP-00 is a generation 1 media player which will never see a 3tb drive, not even with a firmware update.

Check if the tv supports the 3tb size

Obviously WD support have never come across this problem ??

any clues?

OKAY, I have the answer.

Whilst waiting for any responses I tried the Live Chat to Samsung Support & they advised it is a 1TB limit for Samsung TV’s. Even the new smart tv’s are the same.

When I pressed them for supporting documentation they gave me the usual answer - “it is in your tv user manual”, which of course it is NOT. I then asked if that limitation is written on any samsung public web pages or documented somewhere where I could see it & they then shut down the conversation by saying they have given me the information.

I then advised they will be getting more calls like this as portable hd’s are already bigger than 1TB therefore unsuspecting buyers will purchase the large hd’s assuming they will work as there is no info from the manufacturer regarding the limitations for storage devices.
