WDSmartware Backup and Retrieve buttons greyed out

  1. When I go to the Home tab and click on the source I can see both the C drive and the MyBook Essential G drive there and I have successfully selected C drive to back up from.

  2. Both the Backup and Retrieve tabs are greyed out and MyBook Essential (G drive) doesn’t appear as a target.

  3. I have found that MyBook has no files on it but there is nothing wrong with it and I am desperate to get WDSmartware working in case of a computer failure.

Can someone please help me, I have spent so much time on this.

If WD SmartWare has been updated to the latest version and you still have this issue then try safely-ejecting your hard drive and rebooting your system, then formatting your hard drive (As it’s currently empty).
