The “Incorrect Parameter” error typically occurs due to file system corruption, partition issues, or bad sectors on the drive. Here’s how you can troubleshoot:

  1. Run a Disk Check: Open Command Prompt as Administrator. Type: chkdsk X: /f (replace X with your drive letter) and press Enter.
  2. Update Drivers: Open Device Manager, locate your drive under “Disk Drives,” right-click, and select “Update Driver.”
  3. Assign a New Drive Letter: Go to Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc), right-click your drive, and select “Change Drive Letter and Paths.”
  4. Recover Data: Use Windows data recovery software to recover your movies if the drive remains inaccessible.
  5. Reformat the Drive: As a last resort, reformat the drive after recovery. Use NTFS or exFAT for better compatibility.

Can you retrieve a SMART report from the drive?

If not, then the drive has internal problems, eg bad heads, media, firmware.

In the unlikely case that data recovery software can access the drive, consider the software that professionals use. Many are cheaper than Stellar. In fact, I am not aware of any pros who use Stellar.

Whatever you do, don’t use CHKDSK in repair mode on your sick drive. Microsoft cares more about the integrity of the file system and will sacrifice your files to this end,
