WD SmartWare Mac 10.8 with Two WD External Drives

I have two external WD Drives, a My Book 3TB and a My Passport 2TB. Each connects to my MacBook Pro from 2012 via USB 3.0.

I installed the WD SmartWare software when I recently purchased the My Book drive. I set the drive up with the software to have security. I also updated the firmware. However, I am unable to see the My Passport drive with this SmartWare software. I would like to be able to set security on the My Passport as well as the My Book, but I can’t get it to appear in the SmartWare software.

I updated the firmware of the My Passport but it still isn’t seen by the software. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, from the Smartware Home window, you should be able to see two columns, above the second column you will see a drop down window, from there you can select the external hard drives that you have connected. Be sure that your Passport model is compatible with Smartware on your Mac, since the latest models don’t support it.

Find your model on the following list, if Smartware is not available to download for Mac then it is not compatible.

Thank you for your assistance. I am unable to find any other drives listed in the second column, only the partitions I made on the My Book drive. In the first column is my computers internal drive.

The part number for my My Passport drive is wdby8l0020bbk. I was able to find the product page with software downloads, but SmartWare is only listed for Windows. Can you confirm that this drive is not able to function with SmartWare for Mac?

Yes, unfortunately your model doesn’t support Smartware on Mac’s, so in this case I recommend you to use Time Machine. Check the link below for the basic steps.
