I wanted to move some files from my external drive back to my desktop, but the drive doesn’t let me move some of them, while some were moved back with no problems, and I discovered that it’s now read-only. It’s a WD HFS 1TB My Passport for Mac, and I have OS 10.11.6. Tried opening the padlock but every option still stays grayed out, also tried dot_clean but get permission denied. I don’t want to format it until I get my files. Can anyone help with this?
Can you copy your files from the unit rather than moving them? Copying doesn’t require writing permissions.
I am moving/copying them to my desktop but only some of them.
