WD not working

I have a 1TB WD passport HD. I saved 5 years worth of lectures, teachers notes, lesson plans etc on it this past two weeks. However, NOTHING IS OPENING. When I place the USB onto the laptop, it ‘recognizes the device’ and states that it is ‘ready to use’. However, when I go to ‘my computer’, it does NOT SHOW UP at all under external devices. Nothing will open. HELP PLEASE !

You should try a different cable. Also check device manager to see if it shows the disk drive, Uninstall and restart the computer. 

You can also try updating the drives firmware.
