WD MyBook Studio stoped working

Hello,

I have a MyBook Studio 1TB and out of nothing it stopped working. When I plug it in the power supply / FW 800, nothing happens. Of course I have all my backup on that drive.

The drive is about 2 years old.

what can I do ?

hmm after pluging / unplugging several times it started to work again … strange.

shall I be worried about my data ?

Even when my drives are working fine, I still worry about my data.  In your case, you can’t call it a backup if it’s all on that one drive.  By definition a backup isn’t a backup until it’s in more than one place.  So, yes, you should be worried about your data.  I’d make sure that I have it all on another drive as well.

As for the drive, are you plugged into a power strip that is loaded with other devices?  Try plugging directly into the wall and see if it spins up, properly, next time.  The drive may not be getting enough power.

Try connecting the drive to USB and see if the issue persists.  If it does not, the firewire cable or port may be the issue.   At that point, you would want to backup the information and RMA the drive.  This issue could also be related to a power supply problem.  If you contact our support, they can troubleshoot and provide a replacement power adapter if appropriate.
