Have noticed several with same issue but nothing current. Is there a fix for the My Book Studio and other WD External Drives that no longer power on. I have three that have failed. The latest has irreplaceable photos and other documents. WD is willing to replace them but I need the data. Any work-a-round for this BUG or CRAPPY DESIGN FLAW. All I have heard is rumors of a dead-mans switch on the power supply - how convenient. I bought a brand new drive and disassembled it and combined it with another drive that had failed. I was in hopes that replacing the parts would bring it back to life. No luck. Please HELP! The current Western Digital FAILED Drive has not been altered in any way. I did order a new power supply - no luck. Sure looks like a LEMON PRODUCT designed to fail so more product can be sold.

Oh I definitely need to recover the data. Not sure if I am able to afford the cost in doing so. 3 failed drives. Countless online reviews with same issue. The thing that makes me most skeptical is the entire WD department that is set aside to replace hard drives after they fail. It’s almost like they are expected to fail. I realize no one can predict when and if a drive will fail. However, three strikes your out. I will never buy another WD drive - there is too much at stake. And now the huge expense of recovering data from my “back-up” drives. Sad. These drives have sat in the same location with the same power and the same use for 2 to 3 years. I have other back-up and external drives working side-by-side with the same set-up. Only the WD drives have failed. Sounds like a lemon to me. I wish I had done my homework in advance. Lesson learned.
