WD MyBook Dashboard SMART Test Errors

Hello all!

First time poster in the WD Community and as the subject line indicates, I’m trying to find out how serious these SMART errors are. Here’s the story. I wanted to run a test to see if there were any bad sectors after I found some files that wouldn’t open. I used Macrorit Free Disk Scanner selecting the extended SMART test and it came up with 5 bad sectors. Not knowing what to do next, I ran Windows chkdsk thinking if it found any bad sectors an attempt would be made to fix them. But it claimed there were no errors, albeit the test was short. Then I tried the extended test using WD’s Dashboard. My external HDD was incorrectly identified even after refreshing the stats, for starters. But that not withstanding, I ran the test and somewhere between 20 and 30% of the test completed, it stopped. It reported that there is one or more errors and gave error code 7 at the end. I clicked on “More Information” and that just lead me to the WD Support front page. Couldn’t find a thing about what this error 7 is about, nor what to do next. I did generate a report on the test that I would post here, but I’m unsure how to do that here. Just in case it’s needed, here is a little info on my computer. It’s an ASUS PC running Windows 10 Pro. It has an Intel i5-10400 processor & 8 gigs of RAM.

Thank You for any help that you can provide.
