when I try to open my passport it tell me that there is no wd writable partition. I have saved a lot of data to the drive is there any way to retrieve the data?
First we need more info. What OS are you using? If it’s Windows does the drive show in Disk Management and what does it say there? Test Disk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk Or Easuse Partition Manager http://www.partition-tool.com/ might fix the problem if it’s corrupt partition data. Never trust important data to one drive no matter who makes it. One copy is not a backup.

the os is windows 7 home premium. the processor is an AMD Athlon ™ II x2 220. 64-bit OS The computer recognises the drive but does not recognise the MY Passport Essential partition it appears only to see the WD operating system files.
