WD My passport problem with USB3

Hello,

I have some problems with my WD My Passport HDD (USB3 2 To).

My motherboard is a Asus P8Z77 Pto / Thunderbolt.

  • If I connect the HDD in an USB2 port there is no problem.

  • If I connect the HDD to a port in the bottom of the motherboard (the Intel one it seems USB3 SS / UASP) the HDD is accepted but the speed is limited to 40-45 Mo / sec (not was I was expecting for this drive).

  • If I install it in the other port (the AS Media), nothing happens and after a moment I have an error message telling that the USB drive has a problem (is not recognised by windows) and to connect it again. After a few trties (even the front port ofm y case), the HDD can still not work.
I have tried with and without the drivers from usb (as Windows 8 accepts the USB3 natively). I have also applied the last firmware for the chipset (from Asus Web site).

Can you please tell me what I can do?

Thank you

Marc
Should I use the 7 days I have to return the product or is there something I am missing?

Hi, try connecting the Passport to another PC with USB 3.0 ports. You can also run a test using DLG. Check the link below for the steps.

How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows

Hello,

I have opened a case with the WD support and I have received some informations. I made a test on another computer (same cable) and the speed problem was still there (and drive only workinbg on the Intel USB ports). After that I used a USB3 cable from a friend and the drive was working perfectly (speed around 100M / sec) so they will send me a new USB3 cable.

thank you for your time

Marc
