WD My Passport doesn't work with rear USB 3.1 ports

My WD passport simply doesn’t work with the USB 3.1 ports on my motherboard. It keeps connecting and disconnecting at the same time. I keep hearing the USB connection sound that windows plays non-stop. It works fine with the rear USB 2.0 ports as well as the USB 3.0 port in the front panel. I’ve tried connecting the rear USB 3.1 ports with my keyboard, mouse, headset, bluetooth dongle, WIFI adapter, phone, ps4 controller and they all work fine. Strangely the WD drive works if I connect it to the USB 3.1 ports via a USB extension cable. I am pretty sure its a USB 2.0 extension cable as I get transfer speeds only upto 40 MB/s. I don’t have any other USB 3.0 device to make sure that the ports are alright and that the problem is with the hard disk itself. I am at a loss here. Don’t know if its a problem with my USB ports or if the WD passport cable itself is faulty. I’ve seen similar issues where other people have suggested using a different cable. Any help would be appreciated.
