WD My Passport-5 times wrong password

I learn that I can activate “erase disk” functionality by entering wrong password 5 times.

BUT this logic is not SAFE for the data on the disk if someone intentionally enter wrong password and use “erase disk” functionality to erase my data on My Passport drive.

Any idea ? or just misunderstanding?

Well, if you allow your drive to fall into others’ hands, then you should consider it lost in the first place.

It’d be the same thing for non-secure drives – the person who has it in their hands could simply do an all-zeros and random bytes overwrite and do the same thing.

Either way, your files are gone.
