I use a WD My Book Duo 44TB as a drive on Linux for backup purposes. Though it runs fine initially, its getting stuck after 1-2 days and doesn’t respond anymore.
dmesg is showing this:
[633566.983564] sd 1:0:0:0: [sdb] tag#0 timing out command, waited 180s
[633566.983631] sd 1:0:0:0: [sdb] tag#0 FAILED Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE cmd_age=181s

[633566.983716] Buffer I/O error on dev sdb, logical block 0, async page read
I set it to raid 1 on Windows via the WD Drive Utilities, then ran the Quick Test (wich passed) and then reformatted it on Linux as ext4.
I didn’t adjust the Sleep time as I thought 30mins should be fine. Is it possible that the sleep mode causes this, i.e. it just doesn’t wake up anymore?
Help is highly appreciated, as this drive was quite expensive
Best,
Lyve
