WD My Book 3To not recognized

Hello,

My WD MyBook 3To is not recognize by my personal computer (OS: Windows seven). I don’t think that the alimentation cable or the cable WD > PC is faulty here. Here’s what I’ve as symptoms :

HDD not recognized but IS powered on. Sometime it is on like normal behavior and falls into sleep since I can’t use it. Other times it is powered on and the LED in front of the disk keeps flashing non stop. The disk seems to be functionning since I sense vibration when it is powered on.

Here’s what I have already done :

Checking if HDD is in disk management : HDD does not appear

Checking if HDD is in BIOS : HDD does not appear

Checking if HDD is detected on other computers : another Window computer does not detect it, but my professional computer (UNIX - Fedora distribution) detect it and I can have access to the data without any problem. I’ll test on other computers during next week.

Using testdisk to check partitions : since it is not detected, no ways to access it… and on Fedora it seems that the partition is Primary and bootable so nothing here…

Reconnection of the HDD on other USB ports : HDD is not detected.

Changing cable (with one of my WD passports) : HDD is not detected.

The thing that is bugging me off is that the HDD is recognized on my Fedora computer (except one USB port). And nothing at all in Windows…

Seeking help from the WD community, I’ll run any type of diagnosis you will need (if I can do it :p)

Hello, what format are you using for the My Book (NTFS,FAT32,EXT3/4, etc.)?

Since I used it on Windows first I used the NTFS format.

I would try connecting the My Book to another Windows PC, just to be sure. You can use the DLG tool to see if it’s recognized there. If the problem continues, backup all of your files on the Linux PC and then try formatting the My Book using the NTFS files system. Check the link below for the steps to use DLG.

Tried it on another Windows PC and the drive is still not recognized. I’ll try formatting the hard drive (but first do the backup). To be continued!
