WD external hdd elements 1021 not reading properly

I’ve had this drive for about 18 months now and suddenly it stopped reading. It is still under warranty but I’d really like to get my data back before sending it back. It spins up fine, the light flashes and when I plug it in I get ‘found new hardware’ appear on windows. However it doesn’t appear in my computer. It does however appear in device manager.

I’ve tried removing the driver then plugging it in again but that didn’t work. I ran Data Lifeguard Diagnostics but it had an error immediately after starting saying “too many bad sectors detected.” :frowning:

Any ideas?

There are many things that you can try:

1- Use a different usb cable

2- Try to test the drive in another pc

3- Test all the usb ports of your computer

4- Connect the ac-adapter directly to an electrical outlet on the wall not on power strip

If after doing that tests you still not see your drive, seems that you need use the services of data recovery experts to recover your information.
