Wd Elemts dead, no adapter

My WD Elements 3TB (WD30NMZW) has died. Light is dead, drive is not moving. I moved data over night, next morning it was dead.
After disassembling I realized that none of my adapters would fit. I am not even sure if that thing next to the USB socket is supposed to connect to anything.

Any ideas if I could use this for a data transfer?
Any ideas what part is damaged?
Cheers, Hein

Hi @Heindaddel

Have you opened a support case? If not opened, for more information, please contact the WD Technical Support team for the best assistance and troubleshooting:

These PCBs have a common problem. There is a zero-ohm resistor (“000”) adjacent to the USB connector. Over time it develops dry solder joints which then results in a no-power symptom. If this is your problem, just reflow the solder with an iron.

Wow! That sounds like in depth knowledge! Thank you very much, I will try that, even though it scares me…
