WD 1 TB My Passport ---- I can't read or drop anything

I bought the 1TB Passport a few months ago but did not try to use it until now. The passport appears on my desktop of my mac but it will not allow me to read or drop anything in. 

It is clearly for macs or pcs becuase it says apps for mac apps for windows, but it will not allow me to oepn anything including the user manual!  It says “not recognized.”

Please help!

Have you tried formatting the drive?

if that is a passport that came to be use on a windows computer, you might need to format the drive in order for you to use it on the MAC.

They say that works on both system but an specific file format is requiered for either or.

In Windows is NTFS and on MAC is HFS+
