Video files replaced with yellow question marks

I’m using the SanDisk 32 GB in my Canon Vixia HF R300. Upon recording video I went to upload the files to my computer, and in the folder I changed the names of the files. I was having problems with my VLC player and in reviewing the files again in the Canon, the files showed up with yellow question marks and says that it cannot be played.

How can I retrieve the video?

Try renaming the files back to their original names.

What would that do? The OP has clearly described what the problem is; seeing pictures of it wouldn’t help anything. :confounded:

Actually it might.  It will show what app the OP is seeing the question marks on.  Windows Explorer, Windows Media Center, something else?

A screen shot would be tough since the Canon is a camera. :smileyvery-happy:
