I wanted to disable VCD from my Passport Essential so I followed the instructions on the website that said to update the firmware. I updated to the latest version (v2.019) and then tried to run VCD Manager. I get the message "Please connect a WD Smartware drive to continue; then click Rescan. A little help please.
This is the same thing happen to me just now and mine is brand new

I am in the same situation - could anybody help please? - I am so fed up with WD…
The drives with firmware version 2.019 have a mini VCD called “WD Unlocker”. The mini VCD is always disabled unless you password protect your drive. Removing the password from a drive will hide the “WD Unlocker” VCD.
