My HP computer notebook was switched from Windows 7 to Windows 10 this past spring. When I use my external backup drive, it appears to backup my files, etc. and records the date of the backup. However, it shows the backup as “Backup and Restore Windows 7” and always says “The backup completed but some files were skipped”. I do not want to restore Windows 7. So is My Passport Ultra actually backing since switching to Windows 10? If some files were skipped in the backup, even though it says the backup was completed, should I be wondering what was skipped? Thank you.
It would appear Windows itself is handling your backups. Your WD Passport does not create or manage automatic backups on its own without the help of a commanding application.
Try installing WD SmartWare or WD Backup in order to copy your files with a WD-specific backup program.
I have a new computer with Win 10, not an upgrade from Win 7. My back up in Control Panel refers to Backup and Restore (Windows 7). As far as I am aware I am backing up Win 10 without any problems.
I had the same problem initially with skipped files but resolved the problem by following this. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/979281
I don’t know if you are getting the same error code but the Scenario 2 resolution worked for me.
I deleted all the WD software from My Passport Ultra and just rely on Backup and Restore and Backup in Windows Backup in Settings. I believe you can reinstate the WD software from a download on their web site.
These are my thoughts but I am not an expert.
