I have bought 1TB usb 3.0 WD MyBook External HD 4 months ago (2011/02/25).
My question is that i have read at many webpages that usb 3.0 supports transfer rate upto 5Gb/s (or 625MB/s) but why on earth i am getting speed of 30MB/s or 20MB/s only?
My laptop is sony vaio VPCF121GX equipped with two USB 3.0 ports. I have Win 7 SP1 Professional Ed.
I have attached the device manager snapshot that clearly shows that i have usb 3.0. For speed test i have used ATTO disk Benchmark.
Unfortunately i dont have another device having usb 3.0. And more importantly in Pakistan very few devices have usb 3.0 ports and trust me i have bought it just 4 months ago (the same time as i bought this WD hard drive). Is there another way to check??
Make sure you disconnected from web and shut down all AV and other security software and see if that changes anything on transfer rate. .That will eliminate that possibility.
Are there any updates for your USB ports drivers? Are they built into the laptop or added via a card? Have you tried any other USB 3.0 drives on the ports to see if they have the same slowdown? Have you tried a different USB cable? Are you using a full USB 3.0 cable and not the USB 2.0 micro cable that likely came with the drive? The goal of troubleshooting an issue like this is to determine where the problem is- with the drive, with the ports, with the laptop, or with the cable.
