USB 2.0 cable for WD Elements problem

My USB 2.0 connector from my WD Elements external drive 1.5TB just broke. I can buy a generic usb cable from the store or online but I’m affraid that it might messed up my WD external disk and not be the same quaility and offer the same transfer data speed and compatibility with the drive since it won’t be an original part. Where can I find an origina WD replacement 2.0 usb cable?? I serached the WD site but they don’t seem to offer any 2.0 usb cables Type A Male to Mini B for older hard drives anymore, just 3.0 usb for newer ones.

My WD external drive is 3.5’’ and it’ the model WDBAAU0015HBK-EESN.

Please help, I need my external drive and I don’t want to mess it up with using a generic cable that is not official part for my WD drive.

Any advice?

Hello,

Any USB 2.0 cable with the same length should work.

If you want to get the original OEM cable the try contacting WD support.

Thanks for your replay Hamlet,

That was my concern, will any USB 2.0 cable from the store do the job well? Because most of the USB cables sold at the stores or online are mainly cheap so I guess they are not of the premium quality.

My concern is that by using just any cable from the market I might cause damage to the external drive or cause damage to the data during transfering from the drive or to the drive, or not transfer the data properly. Should I worry about this?

Also, will I get the same transfer data speed as I did with the original cable from the Drive?

Thanks.

Hello,

As long as the cable is not longer than the original one then you dont have to worry about anything else.
