I backed up files from my laptop using the WD Backup application for my WD Easystore device because I have to send my laptop in for repair. In order to make sure I could restore these files, I attempted to restore a number of pictures, word documents, pdfs, etc. into a folder on my desktop. Every time I select files from the device to restore, it says the files failed to restore. When I click “retry” they suddenly restore. When I attempt to open any of these restored files on my laptop, they are unable to open (my pictures or pdfs) or they are empty word documents. These files also have no size to them. Where did I go wrong during this process of backing up and restoring my files? I have never used an external hard drive before.

Make sure that you are using the same backup software that you used to backup your data.
