Hi @uncanoonuc,
What OS are you using? In Windows you can change the name as follows:

Right-click the drive you want to rename.
In the drop-down that appears, select Properties.
In the Properties window, on the General tab, type a new name in the Label box, click Apply , followed by OK and you’re done.

In some Windows configurations the new name will not show up immediately. You might need to safely disconnect the external drive and reconnect. (Or just reboot).

If done correctly, you will not loose any data on the particular drive, but it’s always a good thing to make a backup before doing anything.

If you’re unable to rename an external SSD, it could be due to write protection settings, insufficient permissions, or the SSD being used by another process. Check the SSD’s properties for write protection, ensure you have the necessary permissions, and close any programs that might be accessing the SSD before attempting to rename it.
If you have lost data and need to recover it, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is a dependable and user-friendly software that you may want to consider.
