Hi @uncanoonuc,
What OS are you using? In Windows you can change the name as follows:
Right-click the drive you want to rename.
In the drop-down that appears, select Properties.
In the Properties window, on the General tab, type a new name in the Label box, click Apply , followed by OK and you’re done.
In some Windows configurations the new name will not show up immediately. You might need to safely disconnect the external drive and reconnect. (Or just reboot).
If done correctly, you will not loose any data on the particular drive, but it’s always a good thing to make a backup before doing anything.
If you’re unable to rename your external SSD, start by checking that you have the right permissions to rename the drive. Ensure that no programs are using the drive and close any that might be. You can also try renaming the drive in Disk Management. If that doesn’t work, restart your computer in Safe Mode and attempt to rename the drive again. It’s also a good idea to run CHKDSK to check for any errors on the drive. If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to format the drive after backing up your data.
