Trolling In The Forum

The following is a reply I received to a suggestion to add additional moderators:

Sheesh, some people think they know everything and that everyone should conform to their superior ways. For your information, Know-it-all, anything and everything of substance to be known about the current Fuze firmware is in that thread well before the last few pages. The thread itself is going to be retired as soon as the new firmware is released any moment now.

But all that doesn’t matter, because purity concern troll Know-it-all wants to rap knuckles, take names and restore ‘order’ so that poor schlubs who are incapable of using the Search function won’t have to naturally select themselves into “wading” through short, only slighty off topic posts at the end of a soon to be closed thread. Look, most threads are less than one page. It’s rare that a thread goes more than 3 or 4 pages. The Search function works. The site is extemely usable for its intended purpose.

Finally, Know-it-all, you might want to consider that the very people you want to regulate – the people who are on the board at least semi-regularly – are the people most likely to providing user support answers to the noobies who come looking for help. Instead of coming in from on high telling them how to behave, perhaps you should consider offering a simple Thank You.

If people aren’t prepared to offer a reasonable and respectful reply, they shouldn’t bother replying.  Calling someone a troll with this purile, trollish message is hypocritical.

If the intention is to help and retain users, be helpful.

This would be considered by some as a call out thread. Let’s try to keep it civil here, this is your one and only warning. Take some time to read the forum rules and guidelines, personal attacks of any kind regardless of your opinions of another user will not be tolerated.

But was it really necessary to start a new thread on this, rather than simply replying in your original one?

For the record, it was “concern troll.” It has a specific meaning.

Actually, yes.  The other thread was to offer a suggestion.  This one is to point out problems with noob bashing…

Someone wanting to discuss this topic wouldn’t go looking for it under a thread called “moderators”, would they?

Respectfully, I disagree. Your 1st post in this new thread was an obvious response and verbal retaliation to Robisan’s comments (to you) started in your other thread. You even quoted it in it’s entirety.

While it’s true that this may indeed constitute an entirely new subject matter (although it’s a fine line), we don’t need to take ‘on-topic’ discussions to such an extreme segregation.

And it’s highly unlikely anyone would ever want (or need) to search for a thread regarding ‘moderators’ or ‘n00b-bashing’. We don’t need (or want) personal attacks or verbal sparring here necessarily, but obviously with so many different personalities and points of view, it’s bound to happen occasionally. Given that, I believe it’s best to keep it contained to as few separate threads as possible, rather than spreading it around poisoning multiple threads unnecessarily.

With your background, you should be able to appreciate this.

While also claiming not to have read it…

Now, now . . . no need to pour gasoline on an already burning fire!

You’re doing exactly what I was trying to convince dogoti not to do; carrying this ‘difference of opinion’ into multiple threads.

Please, just let it go.
