I mentioned in another thread here that another beta tester had uploaded (into the MPW Beta Forum), an Xray of the MPW that his wife did for him of the MPW. So, here it is for all to see. Proceed beyond the Xray at your own risk. There’s no way I am going to open up MY MPW and perform surgery on it – even if it’s “exploratory”!

but can’t find info about the 2 TB HDD in the MPW I bought.
Edit: In one of those images there seem to be shock absorber for the HDD indeed, and they can also be seen in the x-ray above.
hmmmm … i wonder if you’d bought the 500GB version … and could swap the HDD with a 1TB ?

I guess it would work just fine as I can’t imagine WD would restrict this but thats just a guess.
Just any 2.5" with a hight of 9.5mm would fit, but be aware of that the drives used in the MPW are specially made for simultaneous streaming of several media-files to several users. Exactly what that means I’m not sure of but it could be power use and heat buildup in my guesses.
How about using a SSD for replacement?
Sure, find a 2TB SSD, and if you do – for less $$$.
