Can someone help me? I plugged my Passport 1 TB external drive into my USB, it shows up in the File Explorer as Local Disk (D:), it shows up in the Device Manager as WD SES Device USB Device. But when I try to access my files that are on there, I get this message:

D:\ is not accessible
The parameter is incorrect.

Your computer can identify correct file systems, such as FAT, exFAT, FAT32, and NTFS. But when a drive’s file system is missing, unrecognized, or corrupted, Windows will show it as ‘RAW’. In this case, you will see a warning message like “The drive is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect.” or “Location is not available. E:\ is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system.”

This state often stems from improper ejection, malware, bad sectors, or issues with partitioning. When the file system is absent or damaged, the Windows operating system cannot read or write to the drive until you successfully repair or reformat it.

Even though you cannot access the drive, the data remains intact. It’s recommended to use data recovery software to recover files before attempting to reformat. (Be noted: reformatting the drive will restore its file system, but it will erase all data ).
