Slow transfer speed

I bought a My Passport Essential SE 1TB USB 3.0/2.0 portable external hard drive.

When i connect to my laptop with 2.0 ports, transfer rate is only around 17mb/s.

I think is slow.

Is that normal?

I believe a good read speed for USB 2.0 is around 20MB/s. Your transfer rate figure would include writing to the destination drive.

I suggest that you obtain a read benchmark graph for your drive and compare it against other users.
