Sandisk External SSD 1TB [Up to 1050 MBps] Intermittent Freezing on Windows 10, speed not matching what was advertized

I purchased this a few months ago, whenever I plug it into my laptop and try to do anything on it - open a file, move/transfer a file/folder, etc - it freezes for 10+ seconds and it’s not responsive. Also, the transfer speed when I do get it to work is quite slow, definitely not 1050 MBps as advertized. Is there a fix for these issues?
