Restore Backup on a PC with a new HardDisk and WIN10

I had a failure on the HardDisk. Now I have a new disk and a new WIN10. I will retore the Backup from My Passport. The WD Software Version 1.6.6060.18987 tells me, that restoring is not possible. First I have to make a Backup-planning. If I do so, the Software Begins to store the files of the new Hard disk.
How to restore the backup of the old HardDisk?

What backup software did you use?

I used the WesternDigitL backup software .
But I have a solution: The latest version of the backup-files is stored in original format on the drive. So I can copy the directories or single files vom the MyPassport-disk to the newly installed drive in my Laptop.
The backup-software is only neccessary for restoring a older version of a file.
