Up until now I have used USB to connect my Passport Wireless to my Windows computers. The Passport is running the latest firmware.
I recently bought an Asus Transformer whose USB port apparently does not supply enough power to operate the drive. Using the instructions below, I have not been able to get the Asus to recognize the drive in order to transfer files over wifi. The goal is to use the Passport to store non-media files from the computer so they can be transferred to my iPhone via the WD iOS app.
More specifically, when following this instruction, “For a Windows PC, in the left pane of the File Explorer window, click Network > MyPassport (or name you assigned) > Public,” the Dashboard opens in a browser window.
I’d appreciate any suggestions on getting the Passport to work wirelessly on windows 10.
Edit to add:
I loaded WD Quick View for Windows on my desktop, Win 7 PC and it finds the pasport very well, the drive shows up as a computer under Network. The wireless drive alos appears on my Win 10 desktop. Both are networked via eithernet.
On the wifi only Asus Win 10, the drive briefly appears in the “Storage” section and then disappears and reappears every few seconds.
I wish this drive worked with the same app as my cloud storage drive does.
Instructions from the online manual:
Using a Wi-Fi Connection to Load Content
When you first connect to the My Passport Wireless Wi-Fi network, none of your media is on
the drive. You can start copying files from your computer or other devices on the network to
the drive using Wi-Fi.
From your computer or computers and devices on the same network
- Check your settings and make sure your computer is connected to your My Passport
Wireless drive or the same wireless network your drive is connected to. The drive can
act as a wireless client device on your Wi-Fi network so everyone on the network can
access it (like a regular network attached storage device). - On your computer, open the File Explorer (PC) window or Finder (Mac).
- Do one of the following:
For a Windows PC, in the left pane of the File Explorer window, click Network >
MyPassport (or name you assigned) > Public.
The drive’s Public folder opens.
4. Drag and drop files from your computer or other computers and devices on the network
to the drive’s Public folder.
