Purpose of WD files

I am only running the disk management portion of SmartWare. I see that there are several autoruns and I am interested in knowing what they do and whether any can be stopped, as my computer is eleven years old and I want to minimize drains on the capacity of my CPU. The files are:

WD Quick View wddmstatus.exe

WDBackupMenuHandler and WDBackupPropSheetHandler wdcontextmenuhandler.dll

WDDMService wddmservice.exe

WDFMEService wdfme.exe

WDRulesService wdrulesengine.exe

WDC_SAM wdcsam.sys

Thank you for your assistance.

If you are only using Smartware to lock the drive you can terminate each one of those services…

Must of them refer to applications for the backup portion of Smartware…

You can even uninstall the software and you still will be able to unlock the drive with the unlocker utility

Wizer,

That is what I suspected, but I wanted to confirm. Thank you.
