Please help

I have a Mac book pro and a 2TB my book essential external. when I plug the hard drive in its not showing on my desk top I had the drive partitioned ages ago and used to get 2 icons on my desk top. How do I get them back. I have spent around 3 hours trying to do this tonight.

Hello,

Make sure the drive is plugged in directly into a wall outlet just to make sure it is not a power issue.
Also if possible try replacing the USB cable and connecting the drive to another computer.

  1. Have you checked through Finder << Preferences << Show External Hard Disks?

  2. In Disk Utility, can you find both your partitions under the external hard drive?

  3. Is your disk even mounted in Disk Utility

Hi, so my WD My Passport Ultra 2TB used to work perfectly and then one day a few months ago it made these click sounds but my Macbook Air was able to detect it and after a few hours within that same day, the click sounds stopped. And just recently, maybe a week ago, it made these click sounds again but it was still detected then it was suddenly undetected then made these beeping sounds and some click sounds. Then just a few days ago, the beeping sounds stopped so it only makes these click sounds now. It’s still not detected ever since. PLEASE HELP!!
