WD My Passport external drive is not recognized by my tv! I have copied some movies from my computer to the unit, but when I plug it in to my tv and press the “Source” button on my remote, the external hard drive doesn’t even show up on the “Source” menu on my tv screen. I bought a new cable today with an extra usb-connection on it for extra power, but that didn’t do the trick either. Do I have to download any specific software, or what?
It seems I managed to solve the problem in the most satisfactory manner. By the aid of the support forum, and another separate link, I finally found the information needed. By using the command prompt in administrator mode I found out that the partition tables between my new and old (functioning) external hard drive differed. My new Passport had the new GPT table whereas my old, working LG has the MBR table. Using the same command prompt I could then quite easily change to the MBR table on my Passport. I decided to finish the job in the graphic Windows program, Disk Management, where I formatted the disk to the original file system, NTFS. Having all the information needed, it was quite easily done. However it took me 4-5 hrs to google everything I needed to know.
I’m writing this in case someone else encounters the same problem as me. Here is the link that in more detail describes how and what to do:
Keep in mind that GPT is important with it comes to formatting drives larger than 2 TBs.
